Novello Theatre
The Novello Theatre opened on 22 May 1905, originally named the Waldorf Theatre. Managed by the Shubert Organisation, the theatre was built as a pair with the Aldwych Theatre in a design by W. G. R. Sprague. The theatre has had several name changes, the first occurring in 1909 when it became the Strand Theatre, likely due to its location being just off the Strand. In 191, the name was changed to the Whitney Theatre before reverting back to the Strand Theatre in 1913. In 2005, the theatre earned its current name, thanks to Sir Cameron Mackintosh changing the name to honour Ivor Novello. Novello lived in the flat above the theatre for nearly 40 years.
